CAPRI (Guided tour)

Departure by ship from Forio, Lacco Ameno, Casamicciola, Ischia Porto and arrival at Capri after app. 1 1/2 hours. A minibus will drive you up to Anacapri, where you will visit the Villa San Michele built on the remains of a Roman villa by Axel Munthe (euro 5,00 extra), the noted author and physician. A cable car may take you up to Mount Solare, the highest point of Capri, with a breathtaking view of the island. After the lunch (extra) break a minibus will bring you to the centre of Capri where we will visit the beautiful Augustus Gardens with another famous view of the Faraglioni rocks. (There is time to visit the Blue Grotto, if requested.) Return to the harbour of Capri by minibus and sailing back to Ischia.

GUIDED TOUR ISLANDS OF PROCIDA
Full day excursion. By hydrofoil from Casamicciola to Procida, trip around the island by "microtaxi". Visit of the medieval citadel domination by the beautiful Abbey of the Archangel St. Michel, of the 16th century library and the catacombs.
Lunch (fish specialities) in a typical restaurant on the island.

POMPEI - VESUVIUS

We take the haighway to Pompei, where a guided tour of app. 3 hours will take you through these unique excavations of the ancient Roman town which together with Ercolano was burried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. After the lunch break we will drive up the road to Mt. Vesuvius from the end of which a path leads up to the crater, where a local guide will accompany you and give some explanations. Return to Naples for embarkation.

SORRENTO - AMALFI - RAVELLO

Departure by ferryboat to Naples by 6.40 a.m.

From Naples we take the highway to Castellammare and then the panoramic road to Sorrento where we will make a sightseeing tour and stay for approx. 40 minutes. We then continue our tour along the famous coastal road to Amalfi and make a stop of app. 30 minutes in the romantic resort of Positano. On our way we pass the Emerald Grotto which may be visited upon request and there will be ample time to take some pictures at the most beautiful sightseeing spots. In Amalfi itself we will have a lunch-break and visit the centre and the famous dome. We then leave the coast and drive up to Ravello. Here we will visit the most beautiful gardens at eh Villa Rufolo which inspired Richard Wagner to complete his Parsifal and which today are the site of famous international concerts. From the gardens you may enjoy one of the most charming views of the gulf of Salerno. Return across the Lattari mountains and on the highway back to Naples. Embarkation for Ischia.

Sightseeing tour of Naples with visit of the cathedral and app. 2 hours in the National Archaeological Museum with its priceless collection of works of art from Pompei and Ercolano and from the famous Farnese collection. After the lunch break in Naples we continue our tour to the Phlegrean Fields and the Solfatara, a quiescent crater with the most impressive vulcanic phenomenon as fumaroles, hot water springs ad jets of vulcanic mud. Embarkation to Ischia.

PAESTUM - ERCOLANO

On the highway to Salerno, then on the coastal road to Paestum, where we visit one of the most important and impressive archaeological areas of the Greek period. A guided tour takes you along the "Via Sacra" with 3 grandiose Doric temples set in a most beautiful landscape. Visit of the museum and lunch-break in Paestum. On our way back to Naples we stop for a guided visit in Ercolano, where unlike Pompei, also woodwork was preserved from the Roman period.

Walking Tour:
Fondo d’Oglio - Buceto - Buonopane - Nitrodi

Pick-up at hotel around 9.30 a.m. and drive to Fondo d’Oglio where the walk commences across the crater of Fondo d’Oglio and the beautiful magdelain woods up toward Cretaio where the view of both Casamicciola and Lacco Ameno is absolutely breathtaking. The walk continues then for about 45 mins. towards the Buceto spring through a magnificent chestnut woods. The little village of Buonopane lies at our feet whilst the islands of Vivara and Procida - not to mention the historic Aragonese castle - lie to the east and to the south we can admire the tower of S. Angelo and the isle of Capri.

Our walk continues to the spring of Nitrodi where we will stop over for 2 1/2 hours or so to enjoy our picnic lunch of garlic bread, maccheroni "alla paesana" and "cafona" salad, to be washed down with good local wine.

After lunch - the miraculous Nitrodi Spa water is put to test and if we’re not lucky enough to come back years younger at least we’ll have had a fun day, the Nitrodi water will in any case be beneficial for our skin for at least the following few days or until our next attempt! Transport back to the hotel at around 4.00 p.m.
